Google acquires Green Throttle Games (game software/hardware)

Companies in Relationship

Google, Green Throttle

Deal Facts

Initial Announcement Date: 3/14

Consideration: not disclosed

Google acquires Green Throttle Games, Inc, which develops games and hardware for mobile devices and consoles. Green Throttle sold its Atlas game controller, together with an Android Arena app that worked via bluetooth.

Green Throttle staff, including including two co-founders Matt Crowley and Karl Townsend will be joining Google. Another co-founder Charles Huang (of Guitar Hero) will retain certain rights over Green Throttle's business.

Strategic Implications

Google is apparently interested in Green Throttle's expertise in bluetooth-based gaming controllers, possibly as part of a plan for a forthcoming set-top TV box.
