Apple has acquired Semetric, a company that powers data-driven services in entertainment (especially online music) by providing insight, analytics, discovery, recommendations, and targeting services. The company's Musicmetric service provides record labels and artist managers with data about how music is consumed online.
For Apple, the deal reflect the continued refinement of its online music offerings after buying Beats in 2014 for $3 billion. Providing focused data has become critical for artists and labels, and Apple wants to remain a partner that adds value.
