Google acquires Agawi, which develops technology that allows users to stream apps over the mobile web on their phones without downloading them first. The technology has been used in in-app ads to promote gaming apps.
Few apps integrate search, so Google has a preference for the mobile web, in order to better monetize browsing via ads. Google is enjoying growth in its Google Play app store, but search revenue remains of core importance.
