December 2009 -- Microsoft Corporation will acquire Sentillion, Inc. Sentillion develops identity and access management technology solutions for caregivers in hospitals and healthcare organizations. The company provides solutions for sign-on, user provisioning, clinical workstations, and virtualized remote access. 110 employees of Sentillion will be retained, and Sentillion will remain headquartered in the Merrimack Valley area.
December 2009 -- Microsoft Corporation acquires Opalis Software, Inc. from BDC Venture Capital, VenGrowth Asset Management Inc. and Sierra Ventures. Opalis provides information technology (IT) process automation software products for enterprises. The company offers Opalis Integration Server, Opalis Integration Packs, and Opalis Process Catalogs products, which integrate and automate IT processes, such as incident, problem, configuration, and change management in the IT infrastructure. Microsoft will integrate Opalis into its data center product line, although Opalis will maintain its offices in Mississauga, Ontario.
September 2009 -- Microsoft Corporation acquire technology-related assets of Interactive Supercomputing, Inc. (ISC) from a group of investors, including Flagship Ventures, Rock Maple Ventures, CommonAngels, Bantam Group Inc., Investment Arm, Ascent Venture Partners and Fletcher Spaght Ventures, LP. Interactive Supercomputing, Inc. develops Star-P, an interactive parallel computing platform for automatic parallelization and interactive execution of desktop simulation applications. The company markets in applications to biomedical, financial, and government laboratory research companies. Bill Blake, the former CEO of ISC will be reporting to Kyril Faenov, General Manager of High Performance and Parallel Computing at Microsoft.
June 2009 -- Microsoft Corporation acquires assets of Rosetta Biosoftware from Rosetta Inpharmatics, Inc. Rosetta Biosoftware develops softare for analyzing genomic and biological data to develop drugs and therapies. Rosetta markets the Resolver system that provides a central analysis center and repository for biologists, statisticians, and bioinformaticians for evaluating gene expression data. Microsoft will deploy Rosetta Biosoftware's assets in its Amalga Life Sciences platform. Merck will become a customer of Microsoft's Amalga Life Sciences 2009 platform and will give strategic input to Microsoft on Rosetta Biosoftware applications.
May 2009 -- Microsoft acquires BigPark Inc. BigPark is an online game developer staffed by veterans from Electronic Arts. By acquiring the company, Microsoft obtained control of what it believes will be a hit game (under development), which will run exclusively on the Xbox 360 platform.
February 2009 -- According to VentureBeat, Microsoft is in the processing of buying 3DV Systems, an Israeli start-up, for $35 million. 3DV Systems develops technology that enables motion sensing motion and shape recognition within a three-dimensional space. Microsoft intends to use 3DV's technology to develop a video camera that enables players of its Xbox 360 to control grames with body movement.
